The Municipality of North Cowichan invites applications from candidates with the proven skills, qualifications and abilities to fill the new role of Crime Analyst. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has a passion for conducting specialized research work and who has an extensive background in crime analysis.

This position reports directly to Detachment Commander, and core responsibilities include:

  • Performing complex and highly-skilled research work to support criminal investigation activities to help determine resource allocation, enforcement strategies and operational decision-making.
  • Collecting, interpreting and validating a variety of investigative and intelligence data to provide strategic crime analysis to RCMP members, staff, management and outside agencies.
  • Preparing and presenting various reports, bulletins, crime statistics and correspondence at senior management meetings, briefings and task forces.
  • Developing and maintaining comprehensive databases, files, documents, records and reports.
  • Establishing and maintaining networks with other RCMP detachments and other policing agencies to identify crime trends, address mutual areas of concern and exchange best practices.
  • Providing ongoing recommendations with regard to policies, procedures, and operations, and keeps abreast of developments in the field of crime analysis.

Required Skills, Qualifications, and Abilities: 

  1. Completion of a post-secondary degree in criminology, social sciences, administration of justice, forensic investigation or related field.
  2. Minimum 5 years' experience of analytical or statistical research and presentation of crime data in a law enforcement setting.
  3. Advanced skills in data collection, statistical research and analytical principles, methodology and techniques.
  4. Considerable knowledge of RCMP computer systems (ROSS, CPIC, PRIME, TEAM, JUSTIN, etc.), and basic knowledge or understanding of police investigation techniques
  5. Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License; a satisfactory current driver's abstract will be required.
  6. The position may be physically demanding; candidate must be able to successfully perform all duties associated with the position. A medical certificate attesting to suitability for this position may be required.

Candidates being considered will be required to undergo a comprehensive evaluation of skills, qualifications, and abilities. The successful candidate must pass security clearance levels as established by the RCMP.
